My mgr at Markit

Just like I suspected, my manager is leaving in 2 weeks. Tom gave notice today, and his last day will be next Friday. He is going to NY Life. Supposedly, it’s a good firm with a lot of technologists and with a very good evnvironment. It was a top-ten selection in a Westchester magazine. Good for Tom! He was the best manager I’ve had in my developer’s tenure, but our relationship lasted for only 6 months. 🙁
It will be interesting to find out what the company does now. They don’t really have anyone to substitite Tom with. It was only a team of 3, and Tom had the most experience; I am second with only six months of experience!
It does not look good. If they pick me as the manager, I will accept, but the team will struggle for a couple of months. If they choose somebody else, or an outsider, the team will struggle even more, I think. The only good solution would be to pull somebody that has already worked on the product, like Vadim or Vlad. Are they willing to do it? I don’t think so.
Maybe they’ll abandon the product all together? I doubt it, as it is still a money maker. In any case, whatever happens in the next couple of weeks or months will determine whether I will stick around for some more or will have to find a new job…
