  • clouds at work

I had a pretty crappy day at work yesterday. First, my reporting changes were taking a lot of time. Then I got an email from Ed, ananymous, but still, containing my content, basically laughing at one of the crons that I put in.The subject of the email was “This is sad, really sad.”

This touched me. Especially since this is coming from a friend. Now, I can call him ex friend. I don’t think we’ll ever be at the same level. Not after this. It’s almost like treason.

But I restrained from sending email. That email is not without risk. I could make this a bigger thing. I could scream and raise it. But I will wait and observe.

I don’t know what it is, but clouds are forming for me at m6d. It’s becoming more and more difficult to have that “innovation freedom” that we used to have.

  • teaching my son

I am starting to have negative feelings about my job. I know, that’s not too good. I feel like we’re going in a wrong direction. It’s most likely because we’re growing. But still, my feeling is that it’s going to affect us in a bad way.

I hope that after all is done, this negative feeling will go away, and we’d be able to deliver without much fuss. After all is done, I hope to have a very positive view of the company. I hope to stay.

I need to spend some time with my son. Teaching him at least half an hour every day. Just reading before sleep will not do it. He needs to try a little harder. He doesn’t have too many issues with counting, but other skills he’s lacking. Until yesterday, he did not know the full calendar. We changed that yesterday. More to come. Starting today.

  • marta is the best planner

We had a very good birthday party yesterday. My wife is amazing planning, preparing, and making stuff for birthday. She is unreal. I love how she makes her stuff. And also how stuff comes out. Amazing. She really is. First time baking an apple cake? No problem! Came out almost perfect! First time this, first time that, no problem!

I am not a planner. No. Not one bit. There is nothing in me that can make that happen. I just have trouble organizing anything. Not sure why. I wished I had those skills. It’s just not happening. But it’s good to have a counterpart like that. She is the social side of me that I don’t have. Really. Without her, my life would be so boring. I don’t know how I would live. I really don’t.

  • b party

We are hosting Victor’s birthday party today! Yeah!!!! We are having mostly family in the house. Either way, we’re going to have a lot of people in the house. I think it’s going to be like 15 people. Can we handle that? I think so! Have we had more? No, but still.

I hope that our renovation will go well. We’re putting an island in the kitechen, plus, some lights etc. It should be interesting to see it after it is completed. After that, we’re going to focus outside. I’d like the remove the concrete and put brick stones. That’s also a lot of work. Thinking I might do it by myself, but who wants to break all that concrete? Perhaps I can hire the guy to do it. I think I have to. Well, I will think about it.

I should just focus on the party and keep helping my wife so she feels like I care about the things she’s doing. Am I not? Not always. A lot of times I am tired. And a lot of times I care about myself. But that’s who I am, really. Slowly changing that.

  • moving on?

I hit a rough stretch at work lately. I guess I’m pretty much against processes. We have one such process at m6d. A new process. What kills me, is that for a project I created, that I maintain, that I am responsible for, I’m hand holded. That’s just not cool, and I don’t like one bit of it. But I’ll shrug it off. I’ll live. And if it’s going to bother me, and if things worsen, then it might be time to look for something else. I’m staying put this year. Initial evaluation is early next year. It could come sooner, but I have been putting off offers. Only G interests me at the moment. But I am not ready. Not yet.

  • kids learning

Reading is the most important skills that kids need to acquire. They need to be reading fluently by 3rd grade. My son is still in kindergarden, and just starting out, but he is starting to pick it up. It’s going to be a struggle to teach him well, but I think he’ll be able to pick it up without issues.

I reallly hope to convert him to a lifelong reader. I wasn’t in the early going. But then with some props, I became one in college. It’d be great to have a son that enjoys reading, as we’d be doing it … in the house, in the back yard, etc. It’d be fun!

Fabian is doing well in math. He thinks logically. He’s able to pick up new things fairly easily. I’ll work with him on the new things. I’ll work with him to get up to speed if he needs to.

One interesting thing he did yesterday while we were watching the Knicks, is he showed me how the Knicks are losing the ball. He took a basketball, and he started dribbling, and then let go. And he said that’s what the KNicks are doing. He’s really into basketball. I need to consider it one of the sports for him.

  • learning a lot

What I am learning lately. Lately I’m into xUnit. Testing to be precise. I need to brush up on the techniques, on the naming conventions. On the whole process. Komodorro is one library I discovered yesterday. Actually, I like it. I will try using it, as it simplifies a few calls.

I am also developing my photography vision. Yes, I think I know the basics. Well, still a lot to learn. But I think what I know is good enough. Now I need to improve my vision. I want to create story-telling shots.

I am also learning about scrum. It’s a technique we use at work. Dev process, to be precise. Overall, it is fairly simple, but it’s good to have a deeper understanding it, so we can actually improve it if we need to.

All in all, I think I”m learning a lot. And that’s a good thing. It’s great to be a lifelong learner!

  • feel ripped

Being tired on a weekend is just the thing I ordered. I have good intentions. On Friday, i went to sleep relatively early. I had wanted to sleep for 8 hours. But my son is sick, so when I woke up, I felt tired. I also felt tired during the day. So I’m leaning towards leaving the alarm at 6am. I need to just ease up.

We had an intersting experience yesterday. We had a salesman from Renewal by Andersen. He wanted to sell us windows for our bedrooms. Guess what? We decided to buy 5 windows for 6800! Crazy. But those windows are great. Supposedly. Marta contacted a few people. All say we overpaid. I agree. After doing research, most people are not happy. I intend to cancel on Monday. We’ll see where it takes us.

The takeaway is this. Never buy directly on the spot. Don’t care about any of the incentives. Don’t care about the pressure. Research first, buy second. That’s the only formula I will try to stick with. I am going to adopt that. This could have cost me a lot of money. Money I don’t need to spend. Money I could spend on other things.

  • writing in the morning — every day!

Linsanity for the Knicks continues. It is really unbelievable. What’s nice in my context, is that I”m watching the Knicks games with Fabian. He’s into it. And that makes it really special. That makes it so much better! I love it. I hope the Knicks continue to play well.

I started writing journal entries in the morning. And what an amazing difference it makes. I am now able to write every day! I was not able to do that before. Great improvement!

What that allows me is… many things!

First, I can work on my writing. I can improve it by writing every day. That’s a great thing in itself.

Second, I can think things over. I can put ideas down. And this will be recorded. So I can read it when I’m older. I can read it to inspire me.

Third, I push myself when writing. It gives me motivation for the day.

So it is a great change indeed. I will continue to do it in the morning. Every day!

  • tired but being noticed

I am tired! Lately, I’m really sleepy after 9pm. My body is telling me that it wants to go to sleep. It’s not great. It’s not optimal. But I have to listen to my body and plan accordingly. My early rising habit is telling me is dependent upon me listening to my body and going to sleep early. Other than, that, I love waking up early. It allows me to go to work early. Leave early. Spend more time with my family. And at the same time, save time commuting. Not a bad deal.

I don’t know about m6d, but i’ve really been able to get things done, to innovate. It’s being noticed. I appreciate it. There are things that need improving. Sure. But at m6d, I can point them out and we’ll try to work on improving them.
