  • all hands

During our company meeting day before yesterday, I got a nice surprise. Jenine, who is our 8th floor mgr, told me that she pitched our weekly learning program to Mary, HR. Isn’t that cool? Do I want recognition. No. Is it good that others hear about this program. Why not? We’re unique in a sense that we’re doing things our own way. But it’s good to know that other people know as well.

I heard one another thing. We’re no longer media6degrees, we are dstilery. Yes, that’s our new name. We’re dstillers from now on. It’s actually easier than I thought. It’s going to take time to sink in. But it’s a good change. One thing that worries me, though, is that Penry is leaving. THat’s a huge loss. Huge loss. He stabilzed things. He was a good, humble leader. I had a lot of respect for that guy. And now he’s leaving.

  • learning a lot at work

I am learning at work. For pretty much all of my time at m6d I have focused on micro things. I never really cared about the environment, about other things. Well, things have changed! Changed by a lot! Now I am involved in almost every system. It has been a painful process for me. I don’t like a state where I don’t really know how things work. But it has also forced me to look beyond, to learn other systems. Eventually, this will fall into place. Eventually, things will start to make sense. Eventually, I will look back and wonder how I existed without knowing the whole infrastructure.

  • time to learn m6d technologies

I am big on learning. I love to learn. But my learning has been shallow. And I appear weak as a result.

    Time to change that.

In the next couple of months, I will study m6d wiki until it hurts. I will learn how things work. I will read code. I will try things. I will investigate things. Goal is to improve my overall knowledge of how we do business. Goal is to deepen my knowledge about what makes us tick. Because that’s how I can make contributions. Because that’s how I can appear knowlegeable.

So, knowledge about how and what we do at m6d. Technologies that we use.

    Lots of learning ahead.

  • clouds at work

I had a pretty crappy day at work yesterday. First, my reporting changes were taking a lot of time. Then I got an email from Ed, ananymous, but still, containing my content, basically laughing at one of the crons that I put in.The subject of the email was “This is sad, really sad.”

This touched me. Especially since this is coming from a friend. Now, I can call him ex friend. I don’t think we’ll ever be at the same level. Not after this. It’s almost like treason.

But I restrained from sending email. That email is not without risk. I could make this a bigger thing. I could scream and raise it. But I will wait and observe.

I don’t know what it is, but clouds are forming for me at m6d. It’s becoming more and more difficult to have that “innovation freedom” that we used to have.

  • refocus

When I feel stuck? When things are not working as they should? When I focus on things I should not? What should I do?

    REFOCUS!

    #1 – Focus on MITs

What is my MIT at work now? It’s even pacing and I’m not making too much progress. I need urgency there. I need to start getting things done.

I can’t allow to get a warning. And if I continue on this path, I sure will.

Starting from tomorrow, and till I get the project done, I will focus 100% on this task.

I need to start making progress. After I do that, I know motivation will come.

    Tomorrow is the day!

  • getting things done

I just love to tweak things. I love on user facing products. I realized that the other day. I have a limited exposure to that here in m6d. But I still do. And when I work on them, I like to polish things out. I love that! I love to make things better. I love to make improvements. I love to making the UI beatiful. That’s one things that drags me in. But that also has me spending too much time on those tasks. And taking me away from the MITs. MITs are important. They’re the most important. I need to keep that in mind.

  • place to be

I love m6d. I still do. And that’ a great thing after 6 months. It’s the place to be in the dev world. Yeah, there are things that need to be improved. There are chagnes to be made. But I feel like I’m a contributor and that’s a good feeling to have. I shall work hard. I shall keep digging. I shall make improvements. I will do well if I do.

  • today

Some resistance to doing the best possible job? Perhaps. But is that abnormal? Probably not. On the positive side, I am focusing on work related tasks. That’s a nice change from my previous jobs. I do work and dev related tasks pretty much all the time. That’s a big accomplishment.

I should also focus on being more plorific. On any task. I have some work to do in that regard. But things will improve as I gain more and more understanding.

I did raised my voice today during a meeting. That’s a good thing. I need to do that more often. I do feel some nervousness. Not really sure why. I need to attack the feast so it’s gone. How? I need to force myself to getting rid of the fear. Keep attacking it. Keep fighting it. And I will overcome it. Making a mistake is nothing. I should make more.

My wife told me a scary thing. She lost Fabian. Oh, no. Something struck my heart. SHe did lose him at the Bergen mall. He got away and went to Whole Foods. She looked around with no luck. That was really, really scary! But she eventually found him.

    Gotta run. NJ Transit alert.

  • work

I’m getting that “I love this work” feeling from time to time. That in itself tells me that I have picked the right job. I love that! I love this job. I just hope things continue to stay this way. I really don’t want to change jobs. No, not this time. I want to stick around until I a) get really bored b) don’t stay motivated c) things turn out for the worse. If things improve, and I stay positive and prolific, I am hoping for great things to come out. What can I say: keep continuing; keep improving; keeg delivering!

  • working hard

I’ve been working really hard since I joined m6d. I think the effort is already pay off. On my performance review with Brian, he told me that he sees good effort and that I produce quality results.

    That’s a great start.

But that’s not where I want to be.

I know that I don’t know a lot. I have to learn quite a few things. I forget things very easily. I don’t know if it’s just my memore or what.

But I do think that I write quality code.

Sometimes I think that I am a robot. I just work, work , work, and work. It’s partly true. But that’s my goal here. I want to give 100% to work. I want to see how much I can give. And then I will know if it’s enough. If not, then what?

I believe in my abilities. I know that if I give 100% I will be successful. No matter where I work. it’s challenging here. I’m still not sure how things work. There is so much that I have to learn. I will.
