  • moving on

I am happy with my decision to move on. Time has come. I feel good about it.

I gave notice today. Yes, they want to keep me, but I’m not going to make the same mistake twice. Not again. You can fool me once and you’re a fool; fool me twice and I’m a fool. That’s the way things go. I talked to Pranav today. He seemed concerned but also understanding. He knows there is a better world for me. Plain and simple. But he’s still here, so he has to make the best of it.

The nice thing about leaving this NBC and Markit, is that I’m not making the same mistake of giving notice. It’s best to say, can we meet? And then we talked it out. Seems like that works much better and there is no room for insulting the manager, like it happened with Chris.

Thinking about finally moving on is exciting. But it usually is. Over the years, over the few times I have resigned, I have been lucky to find something fairly quickly. Why? Because I keep myself up to date; because I give all that I have in every place that I work for. Same thing here: I have tried to make it a better place. More than anywhere, I think I have succeeded.

I’m happy to see this being over. Time to go. Time to say good bye to my friends. I’m really lucky.

  • new logging capability

I just sent out an email to everyone announcing a new feature that I implemented: logging. It’s a breakthrough, I think. But don’t I think that I will look foolish. Stop. One of my new rules of life is not to care what others will think of me. Plus, looking back, I did something similar when I was at Ask and it was the best thing that I have ever done! Really.  I know at the time I wasn’t feeling well. I wasn’t feeling very comfortable sending these out. But I learned a lot. And I put some pressure on others to improve. To respond. That’s all I can do.

    So what does it do?

It allows to output “log”, “warn” and “error” messages in both Javascript and Velocity context.

I feel that this is something major. It’s been major for me. I’ve used it a lot.

I’ve done really well last year in making these little improvements. I have created a new way of realeasing. I have added a way to include a template only once. I have improved the release process. I have created a forever cache.

All of these on my own initiative. I think that’s what distinguishes me. I should keep doing it!
