I have another Toastmasters meeting tonight. And my wife is leaving for PL next Friday. It’s scary. They will be away for 2 months before I see them. How will I handle that? Somehow I’ll survive.

Let’s go step by step. Last Saturday at our son’s Christening I gave a short speech. There wasn’t a real big motive for the speech, but I think I did a good job. I was a bit nervous before the speech, but once I started talking, everything went smooth: I was loud; I was confident; I did everything that I planned to say. All in all, my Toastmasters experience paid off.

Tonight at Toastmasters I want to touch up on 2 questions. What would you do if you knew you had only a few months to live? It’s really a recommendation of the book Last Lecture. The book is a fascinating read. It tells you a story that had liver cancer, and how he managed to live his remaining months. Filled with great advice. Life pointers.

The other question that is more communications related: What would you do if you knew you cannot fail? Would you do things differently? Is something holding you back? Are you being yourself?

I think our life is really finding out who we really are.

  • my ice breaker – again

I am speaking again today. It’s been a while since I last spoke. It’s not easy. Never easy. Especially when I’m doing it without much preparation. But I cannot bail out. I cannot say that I will not speak. So I was picked, and I will deliver a great speech tonight.
I am a bit nervous. I think that’s healthy. I think I’m putting a bit too much emphasis. Relax a bit, stas.
I should feel and act relaxed when I’m speaking. I’ll be soft on voice. I’ll be maintaining great eye contact. I will move when I change a point. I will deliver a great speech. I’ve had a lot of preparation to deliver an ice breaker. Plus, I’ve done it before!

  • Markit and Toastmasters

I had a great day today. Great day daydreaming and doing some personal work. I have not done too much work wise. But my manager was interviewing for a new job and he was not here today so I had a free day. I should have accomplished more, but hey, I did what I like and I think it’s OK to have a day like this today. I did a lot of not-work related work and thinking…
Yes, I think my manager is interviewing. He told me a while ago that he will start looking. I think it’s a matter of time before he leaves. It’s not a good situation and we’ll probably struggle as a team if he leaves. We don’t have any veterans on the team! I am hoping he stays on for at least couple more months…
I wonder what’s going to happen when he does leave. Who’s going to become the Connex manager? I want to become a manager, but am I ready? I don’t think I am, but who else? Who else is going to take over a very complicated system? I doubt they will be able to hire somebody, plus, how is a new person going to do it?
I am hoping that they’ll recruit me for the job. It’s not going to be easy, but I am willing to do it. In fact, I am expecting it to be me. If not, I will most like leave the company. It would mean that they don’t have any hopes in me. I would probably not leave right away, but would instead try to check it out first. We’ll see.
I am still hoping for a sunny day scenario.
Toastmasters————I did some updates on our website today. It was due.
Jim contacted me about a very interesting project. A club in the area, Acquirain is on life support. They don’t have enough new members and the club does not have a lot of leadership. They’re basically dying. Jim, the area governor, is looking to have somebody help them survive. I think I’m willing to do it. They’re only meeting once a month, which is good, and I think they’re a friendly club. I am willing to help them. It’s a challenge, but I love challenges.

  • Toastmasters speech

I am getting quite busy at work. Things are heating up. I had an interesting project today. I had to come up with some regular expression (good that I bought a book on it). It worked quite well. I learned something. Regular expressions can be quite fun, actually.
There is one thing I’m falling behind in… I am scheduled to speak this Saturday. I am supposed to give a speech from the module. I gave that up, as it has not value. I will try to do a speech from my advanced manual. The problem with that… is that I have not prepared it yet! I really have to get going.
The project is to prepare a briefing. It’s from the speeches by management serious. I am planning to brief everyone on Quality Club: From Start to…
