  • multi tasking

I am trying to do too much. I write. I work on side projects. I have a family to take care of and please. But that’s what makes it interesting for me. I love it. I love to be occupied and productive. And I think I’m doing a good job.

Plus, that’s why I have my wife. She has some excellent social skills. I am lacking in that regard. But I make up with the stuff that I learn. I usually read a lot and have good “social” knowledge that I can share. I actually have to make sure I improve in this regard. I have to make sure that the time that I spend reading, I can actually use for sharing. It’s not always the case.

BTW, I love how fast it is to add an entry to WordPress. I should convert all of my blogs to it. Working on it. Did I say I’m working on too many things? 🙂

  • learning better

I am beginning to evaluate the way I learn. I am trying to make changes so that the time that I put into learning/reading is more valuable. It’s probably going to slow me down, but in the end, I will learn more and become more knowledgeable and productive.

    What is it?

Do more with less! Yes, I think this is the key for me. I am doing too many things. I read to much. I have too many magazines. But the end result is that I don’t learn enough. Yes, sounds bad. But that’s really how it is.

    Why so?

Because I don’t learn on a level that I can remember. When I read an article for example. Is there anything that I take out of it? What do I mean? Do I extract information that I will actually remember?

    This is not easy.

    I know.

But there are ways that I can implement that will allow me to learn more.

    How?

    I wish I knew.

But I think I know a way. If I can share the information that I read/gather, then this will help me remember it. It will help me digest it in another way. Whether it’s twitter, my blog, a wiki page, anything. The point is to extract information that will go into my “long term” memory. Only then I will remember it.

So one of my goals for this year is to alter my learning. Change it so I focus more on the things that I learn. And that I really learn.

Reading is a lot of fun, but it could be even more fun when I can use it in a way that can help me.

  • wordpress; fabian

WordPress i much more robust and much faster blogging platform. It’s too bad I’ve been using MT for years, with deep linking in Google. But that just really means that I will have to work harder to convert. I think I should.

One other thing I have to do is migrate to a different hosting company. I have a year or so for that. I wish I had something sooner, but it got renewed for another year and I don’t think I’ll get a refund.

My son is developing really great. I think he’s going to be a leader. He likes to get challenged. Any time I say, you don’t know “…,” he rises up. Not only that, he wants me to say it again, and again. It’s really cool. This is how I’m challenging him. With that, he’s learning new letters. He almost knows all of them now! And we really just started learning them a few weeks ago. He’s also doing great in swimming classes. I get a sense that he might be starting slowly with some things, but as soon as he gets a bit comfortable, he rises up!

  • Hello world!

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!

  • learning log

I have been running out of time at the end of the day. I need to regroup. What do I want to accomplish? I think I want to create something that I will read down the road and that will help me 1) write better and 2) learn something about myself and 3) the stuff I’ve been doing it.

To accomplish that, I should spend at least 10-15 minutes every day writing an entry. If I only spend a minute or two, I don’t really reflect on anything. It does not allow me to think. I don’t really want that. This learning log/journal is a great idea. I have been doing it for some time now, but I need to make sure I do it the right way, and that it actually serves a good purpose.

With that, I should start writing in it at least 15 minutes before I have to leave. Otherwise I just rush myself and the content is not that good. I should also find a way to write on weekends as well. Not sure when, but perhaps I can find at least 10 minutes before I go to sleep. I don’t think I’m extremely tired.

  • learning

I am learning that Twitter is disruptive. It is disrupting my learning. I have to watch my usage and maybe eventually only check it during particular time during the day. I don’t want to constantly check. That’s what I’m doing now. I understand. I have only started using it. But I will control it.
I have to spend more time improving my dev skills. And that’s the bottom line. That should be my #1 filler of free time. I have to do that.
For that end, I am thinking of setting up a new dev box. I would install glassfish on it and then play around with different applications. That’s something that can improve my skills. That’s what I have to do.

  • wife issues

My wife gets upset when she has to do something and I am browsing the net at the same time. I don’t know what it is, but it really drives her crazy. I have to avoid it. I can’t be confontational about it. I know the easiest thing is to be stubborn and don’t give in. But she’s my wife. And if I can suffer a little for her, then it’s fine. I should give more effert. I should care more about my son. I should care more about my house. I should care more about my wife. I have to read the marriage book. I think it’ll set me straight.

I know. I know. I would love to have my wife in a better shape and not get out of control. But that’s what she is. I can’t force changing her. She has to want to change by herself.

  • keeping up

Things are a bit slow at work lately. But I’m learning. I’m learning on my own. I am creating project. I am experimenting. I am trying to make things better. For all of us. I think I’m growing. And that’s the bottom line. I have to keep growing or I will drive myself out of here. I will have to stick around for a few more months at least. Things are brutal in the marketplace. When things pick up, it’ll be much easier to find a place that’s hiring.

  • busy

Things are sort of slow latelyat work. I’ve discovered my new passion: twitter. I love reading it and I’mfinding a lot of great stuff there. I have to be careful. My goal is to become abetter developer. I have to use my free time the best way I can. Spending toomuch time reading and doing not dev related stuff will not accomplish that. But,like anything new, it’s a distraction. I just have to learn to control it in aright way. Once I install things at home, I should read not-dev twitter at homeonly.
  • java ee 6

I think Java EE 6 is gaining momentum. The whole train is going in a right direction, I think. Things are getting much simpler. Glassfish app server is getting more polished. Developing EJBs is much much more simpler. JPA 2 is very good. JSF 2 is actually pretty cool as well. Nice!
