  • doing things

It’s great to be on top of theworld. I love acomplishing things. I love getting things “done.” I am alsoobserving that more and more, I don’t pay attention of what somebody else thinksof me. That’s my life principle now. It’s been for waaaaaay toooooo looooongthat it’s been affecting me. I am trying to say “not anymore.” But I’m not quitethere yet. It’s going to take me years to really get this one completed. If Iever complete it. But I am concious of it and I’m doing things because of it.That’s the way to go forward.

  • writing

I need to be more dilligent in finding the time and actually writing these journal entries. I think these entries are real valuable and can help me reflect and guide me. I need to do a better job.

On days like today, it was rough on the beginning. But then, I thought about implementing my logging feature, and boom, things got really interesting!

  • dev

I am still at NBC! And that’s the bottom line. I like it here. But I need to find every day to spend 1/2 to 1 hour on dev improvement. That’s the only way this place will be of value to me. And I do that. I am working on creating new projects. I am working on new stuff. I am digging. I think this really helps.

What I really want is “be ready” for my next opportunity. I want to make this NBC experience a value. I have work to do. I have to be motivated.

It’s hard to work on dev related material when I have a lot of things to do, but it’s fine. That’s what makes my time interesting.

  • innovating

Things seem stable at work. I am actually doing quite well. I am innovating. I am creating things. I don’t just sit and do what I have to do. I am proactive and look for things to improve. I think that’s what distinguishes me from others. And that’s who I am. I love doing things like that.

NBC is very close to getting acquired by Comcast. I think it’ll happen. Will it help me? Will it make things any better? I don’t think it’ll be immediate. I will still have to pay a lot for insurance next year. But will Comcast some better dev options for me? I don’t no. I hope so. But who’s hiring? In any case, they look more promising then looking for things at NBC. It’s like anything though. All new things seem better then they are.

  • declined

I gently declined the offer I got from 9mmedia yesterday. I am not sure if I need to give them a more definite response. I will think about. Perhaps I will email Brian. Not sure yet. But I am sure that I will not take it.

I got a follow up from chase. A 2nd recruiter wants to talk to me. I have it scheduled for Thursday. It’s probably not going to be very technical. We’ll see. Do I expect anything from this opportunity. Not a lot. If I get it, fine. If not, I’ll live.

Should I start looking more aggresively? I don’t think so. I still have a decent job. I still like what I do. I like the people. So why am I even thinking about moving? I know that long term, this is not the place for me. I need to be doing a more challenging stuff. And that’s the bottom line.

  • 9mmedia – say goodbye

I got a surprise from 9mmedia. They want to hire me. Hire me on the cheap! Maybe not cheap, but they offered me a lower salary than what I currently make. I declined gently, but I told him that I will think about it a bit more. What’s there to think about, though. I make 121, they offered me 110, which Morgan said is 10K more than they budgeted for. I was hopeful, but also hesitant. There are risks with that position. The place is very small as well. I am not going to take it. My wife would kill me! I will keep looking, with a goal of having something by the end of Jan/Feb 10.

  • still waiting

I am still waiting for a reply from 9mmedia. We’ll see. I still have a good feeling but I’m starting to develop some doubts. I am not interesting in any offer, but rather ina really good offer. I am looking for something close to 130 range. If it’s close to that, I’ll take it. If not, I’ll have to stick with what I have.

With my cash accouning. I feel much less stressed. I am curius to see what will happen over the holidays and whether I’ll be able to save any money doing it that way.

  • 9mmedia

I have a good feeling about 9mmedia. I think I might get the offer. How good is it going to be? We’ll see. But if they want to give me a good impression, it should at least be more than $125K. If it’s less than 121, then they most likely are joking. But in reality, I would like to see something in the 130K range. I will be fighting for it and we’ll see if they really want to bring me in. But first of all, I have to see the offer. Supposedly, I should hear a reply tomorrow or on Monday. Let’s wait.

  • 9m

I had a very good interview at 9mmedia yesterday. The questions were more suited to me. Much, much more than the interview at Limewire. This place is the real deal. I mean, this place is hardcore development shop. Crazy, actually. Working with 15 other developers. Everyone is a developer, except the part owner Morgan. In either case, I did well. I did stumble on one recursion problem. I went brain dead for a few minutes. But then I was able to solve the problem. Overall, I feel happy in my performance. I was not sure about one other problem, about Inheritance strategires in ORM, but overall, I did excellent.

What now? I am waiting for a reply. I still have to send them my code. I told them my current salary. I hope that if they want me, they will give me a nice offer. We’ll see. I will wait and see.

One of the things I get askedwhen I interview, is to talk about the most previous place. What are you doingthere? What have you accomplished? What technologies you’re working on? Whatprojects you’re working on?

It’s time that I document thesethings for every place I had worked for. Document it in a way that will refreshmy mind and put details that employers love to hear.
