  • giving 110%

I am making progress towards giving 110% at work. It’s one of my new goals that I keep track on Trello.

But I have to be strict about it and not let any slip ups throughout the day.

    It’s hard. It’s tempting.

But it can draw my time. It can take valueable minutes from me. I don’t want to let that happen. Not now.

I think I lost some of my confidence. I lost some of that feeling that I can do it by myself. I lost that “I’m good” and being on my “own path.” I am going to regain it. Starting from now.

If I want to keep making big bucks, there is really no other way. Gotta get to work!

  • giving 110%

I am on a mission now: I will give 110% at work. Every day.

And what this means, is that I will dedicate all of my time to 2 things: doing the best work I can, and becoming a better developer. Simple. Anything else moves to the side. As simple as that.

I want to check something? I need to do it on my phone, on my kindle, etc. Not on my laptop. It gets too distracting. I can’t let that happen.

Initially, I feel resistance. But it’ll change. I am going to gain more confidence. Things will improve.

  • challenged

Learning, learning, learning. It’s all about how much I want to learn. It’s all about how hungry I am to succeed. It’s all about how hungry I am to be on top.

    It’s not easy.

It’s easy. To fall out of shape. Easy to lose motivation. Easy to be lazy.

I need to. I need to break out of the slump. I need to break out of the slump and gain the desire to drive. I need to learn a bit more than everyone else. I need to just be myself.

Is it that hard? Is it that hard to really spend an hour every day at home and half an hour at work to study, to practice. Is it that hard to have the motivation.

It is. It is a challenge.

  • dreams

what are my dreams? I am reading  a book that asked me to write my dreams in a notebook. I wrote a few. I still need to write a few more.

I think my #1 dream is to retire early and do what I want. If I do that, I would be able to spend time on my projects. I would be able to work part-time, if need to. I would be able to live in Poland, if that’s what I want.

Even though that’s a possibility. It’s still 20 years away, or close to it. 16, if I retire at 50. So it’s long but also not that long. We’ll see.

How about other dreams. My dream is to have enough money so I don’t have to worry about. Not too much. Just enough. It’s possible that this is more of a perception. If so, I will have to adjust my thinking.

  • cleanup around the hosue

Waking up is tough when I go to sleep late. 10pm is really the cutoff for me. Later than that, I will be tired. I don’t want to be tired. I want to have full concentration. I want to GTD!

Finally starting to do some cleanup around the house. I attacked the garage yesterday. I can’t have a mess like that. Never. Ever. Again. This rule is really true: put one thing in a wrong place, and you’ve got yourself a mess. It’s almost a version of the Broken Windows. I will keep my garage clean and organized. In retrospect, I should have bought the big rack from costco.  It would have kept things organized. Much, much, better. It’s never too late.

Also cleaning up my basement room. I don’t like all the laundry in my room. I need to have a clean room so I can relax, read a book, etc. The space is too valuable to waste.

  • having a goal

There is one thing that I am not vigilent about. It’s writing goals. Back when we lived in Garfield, I used to do it almost every night. It worked for me. Should I reread the book? Perhaps I should. I do need a motivation boost. I do need to write it every or almost every day. I will look into this. Perhaps there is a book I can lend from our library. We’ll see.

When I focus on the right tasks, I do get things done. That’s a good thing. It’s promising.

Sometimes I doubt myself. I doubt whether I’m smart. I doubt whether I should be paid big money.

I need to have confidence in my abilities. I need to stay hungry and learn more. I need to on top of my game. If that happens, there is really nothing I need to worry about. I am a capable individual. I get things done. It’s possible that the environment is not optimal. Possible. But I don’t think I need to worry about that. Not yet. I just need to stay focused and have a goal in mind.

  • improvement in gtd

Some progress. I start the day at 5am lately. I get right into writing thi sblog. That.s good. And I get 1 tomato in the morning and 1 at work. That’s good. But that’s not good enough. I’d like to get 2 pomos at home.

Let’s not get carried away. I’d like to do all. But I’m happy when I do enough. Much better than not doing anything, which still happens, I’m sad to say.

I’m learning groovy. That’s on my plate right now. And learning Guava. Also a good to know library. That’s enough work for at least a month or two.

Nice to have a to-learn, to-practice, to-refresh list that I can feed off. Makes me more motivated to do work!

  • garden and learning groovy

It is unreal how much rain we get this spring. I don’t remember the last time it rained every other day or so. There was one year, I think it was 2000 or 2001 that it also rained hard. This is very similar. One thing that’s benefiting is our lawn and garden. It’s still green! Oh, yea! I still have some broadleaf plantain that I need to get rid of, but overall, it’s great. So much improvement from what we had.

My wife has a nice eye. Whether it’s landscaping, or interioror design. The final result is usually very good. That’s good. I appreciate it. I can do some stuff, but it’s nowhere near of what she’s capable of. Plus, I’m a cheap bastard, so even though I might think we need something extra, I might not be willing to buy it. Not Marta.

I think I need to learn Groovy. We use it at work. It’s popular everywhere. I am not yet up to speed on it. Time to learn it. Especially since I’ve been needing to do so.

  • getting motivated

I am trying to get my groove back and starting to reschedule to 5am wakeup call during the week. 6am on a weekend stays as is.

But that’s not the only problem.

I need to become hungrier. I need to figure out what I need to learn and start diving in deep into it. Not exactly sure why that happens, but I am no longer into it as much. It’s harder for me to motivate. It might be related to housing and my other interests. It might be.

    But they shouldn’t be.

It should still be my goal to learn. A lot. 2 pomos at home. 1 at work. It’s manageable. I can do it!

  • watch finances

I need to watch my finanances. With mtg, utils and expenses, there is really not much left. We buy a lot of things for the garden as well. So it feels like I’m not making enough. Perhaps. But I think I make enough. And I have to be happy with what I have.

I do have to watch my finanaces. This pay cycle, I’ve already drawn $350 from my line of credit. I have to watch my finances. Getting carried away is not a good thing.
