  • garden

I am addicted to gardening. But guess what.. there are 2 things related to it:

    1) it’s bearing fruit

    2) I like it!

Yes, things are starting to look good around the house, much better than they used to! I made quite a few changes this year. Our front yard is completely different this year! And our back yard is totally transformed this year as well. So all in all, I think the changes I am introducing are good!

Let’s be honest. Things are not easy. It’s not easy to work around the garden. In fact, it is pretty hard. But the hard work does not scare me! In fact, it motivates me because I see room for improvement. So I love working in the back yard.

Am I really doing to much? I don’t really think so. I think I”m doing just enough! Because at times, I have to do more in order to accomplish something.

  • should i stay or should go?

It’s a must that I need to collect at least a single pomodoro in the am. I put in a new system in place. Actually starting from dev related stuff on the train is not a bad thing. Only in a few instances I shouldn’t do it. Other than that, I shall be doing it!

Should I start looking for a job? Are there any warning signs that appear there? Not that I know of. IE 10 might cause a few issues. Economy might cause a few issues. Other than that, I think it should be fairly safe. But I will play it by the ear. I know that there is a good chance that it will happen in 2013. I feel it. When and whether it actually does, that’s another story. This time, though, I am not forcing the issue, rather letting it slowly rise.

  • use it or lose it

What is it with me? I’m slacking off! I’m not doing all I can. I need to change that! Why don’t we do this. If I don’t collect a pomo, then when my train ride is a dev ride! How about that? It even rhymes!

Motivation is not there. But it has to be there! There is really no other way. Otherwise, why am I waking up at 5:15? Really, why. If I’m not doing useful work, then I should just change and wake up at 6am every day? Wouldn’t that be nice? Exactly. This is the time for me! Use it or lose it!

  • forward looking

I think I have the right focus at work lately. I am focused on making positive changes. I am focused on growing my skills. This will pay dividents.

I am not the smartest person. I am unique. I can see well from other people’s perspective.I think that makes me unique. But I don’t always get a chance to do that. In those cases, I have to create things. I have to make things happen. Just like I did with RTB reports.

It’s always good to be forward looking. Always good to be looking for new things, how to make things better. That’s basically who I am! I love doing that! Why do I need to hide that?

  • learning

I decided to make the move and publish the blog to the group of developers. It felt a bit weird at the beginning, but now I feel that I made a good move. Hey, I don’t know how long I’m going to stick around. Could be another year. Could be… who knows. I am not necessarily enjoying the low-level programming I’m currently involved in. But I just moved so it is too early to tell.

I am still struggling to get anything done early in the morning. It’s not working very well for me. But to step back, I did work in the garden and that occupied some of my time this week. And today, I woke up really, really tired.

I should find at least half an hour every day. That’s really all it takes to collect a single pomo and write a learning journal entry. Goal is to keep moving forward. Goal is to be ready when the time comes. Goal is to keep learning.

  • in/out of garden

I think I am addicted to gardening. I can spend so much time in/out of it. Especially when I try to put in new plants. Especially when the day is so short and I only get to work in the garden for like an hour.

But, though that bothers me a bit, it does not stop me. I am on a mission. I am on a mission to improve our landscaping. Improve it, so we can enjoy it!

At Lowe’s, they have 50% of shrubs and perennials. How can I not take advantage of that? And some of them are really nice. Like yesterday, I bought boxwoods, cypress for $3.50 each. 9 pieces for $3.50. Add quickfire hydrengea to it, for $6.60!, and you got 10 items for $40. You can’t beat that.

I’ve got another dillemma… should I send out announcing my blog, Dev Connexion. I feel some resistance. I am hesitating. Am I going to offend people. Am I going to… But, on the other hand, I feel I’m not giving my best. I am not doing all I can. And I think that’s worse.

  • moving along

I now have to research how to insulate the crawling space. It’s a lot of work for such a small area? Should I do it? How?

Those are all valid questions and concerns. I have to figure out how to do it.

I am happy that I am making progress in my dev learning. I discovered Clean Code to be an excellent book. I am basically reading all Bob Martin writes. He is truly my hero. I have to buy his Agile Principles book again in the Kindle format. Plus the Concurrency book. Love it turning out like this.

  • doing things differently

Finally feeling like I’m making positive changes.

I have a new position at work. This helps me reset and set my priorities straight. My goal is to be a top contributor. My goal is to make big contributions to the projects. And the only way I know how to make that happen, is if I am dedicated 100% to that cause. Got my word for it? I though so.

I have also started to wake up earlier and more consistently. My current time is 5:15. It should be good for a while. As long as I can pick up one pomo, I should be fine.

But yes, when I wake up, I want to put that time for a good use. That means reading/writing/practicing dev stuff. Stuff that helps me stay on top. Stuff that helps me as a developer.

I am happy that I am making progress in that direction.

I dedicate $75 biweekly or $150 for dev improvement. How do I spend that money? On something else. That will stop. I have books to buy. I have products to try and buy. That’s where the money should go. Not for other products. Perhaps $75 is too much. Maybe. But I think I have $0 in the account now.

  • making progress

My goal to be around 185 lb is not really working. I keep getting closer and closer, and now over, 190lbs. It’s the weekend that is messing things up for me. And the ice cream I eat way too many times during the week. What am I going to do? What can I do?

During the week, I eat as little as possible. I don’t think I can eat even less. Perhaps a little. But I don’t think the problem lies there. In fact, I lose most of the weight during the week. Then I gain it back on a weekend. So there lies the problem.

Nights and weekends is where I have to look for answers.

And I have to be more dilligent in how I do some of the chores. I have to finish processing of the pictures. I spent a few hours doing it, now I stopped. And who’s going to process them? Yeah, good question.

  • train complains

My wife has hit a really tough stretch. And she’s taking me with her.

But I am not coming along. I am staying put.

One of my life’s principles is to stay away from negative people. If she’s going to continue, I am just going to ignore her.

There might be a few things wrong around the house. Train noise is certainly not the best thing. But because of that I can walk to the station. It’s a tradeoff. And there are a lot of houses in the same boat. What can be done abou it? Not much. Stop complaining and move on!
