  • being alone

I actually like being alone. I like spending time on my own. Is that a good or a bad thing? Both, I think. It’s too much “me.” I seem to worrying about me, me, too much. Not necessarily a bad thing, but still, not great either.

But I really enjoy just being alone. I like to read. I like to things that are important for me.

The nice thing, also, is that I enjoy spending time with others as well. I always fight to find a balance, but I do enjoy it. So maybe not everything is bad about me.

  • trip and my wife

My wife and kids are home safe. Thank you god for that. That’s the most important thing.

Have I adjusted yet? No, not yet. I did wake up at 5:30am today, but I felt really sleepy. I need a few days to adjust. The problem is that at around 9pm I don’t feel sleepy. That will change after I become more consistent in waking up at 5:30 am, or maybe even earlier. We’ll see.

I had a very good weekend. I went to B&N twice. I love that place. I went ahead and started reading quotes. I had a very good discussion with Rafal Rydlinski. Not very pleasent, I guess, after I publicly stated that I “unfollow” him.

But there is one other thing I discovered. I am really finding out who I really am, what I stand for. That’s awesome. Really. I am feeling more confident as a result. I feel much better. I have more soul searching to do. I have more hard work ahead of me.

But I have created rules for life. Rules that will guide me towards a better person. It’s really awesome project that I have. I will continue doing that.

Waking up and doing stuff that’s valuable. I have to do more of that.

  • leaving tomorrow

My wife is leaving to Poland with my kids tomorrow. Oh, man, that thought still scares me. Not only that, she will be there for 2 months! How will I survive? I don’t really know. But somehow I will. It will not be easy I know.

I will be busy. I have a few things that I need more time on.

    1) I need to get my project going. I am building a store.
    2) Learn algorithms on a deep level.

That’s a lot. I need to get busy and not procrastinate. It will allow me to really learn stuff. And also get my hands dirty with a new technology.

  • toastmasters

I have another Toastmasters meeting tonight. And my wife is leaving for PL next Friday. It’s scary. They will be away for 2 months before I see them. How will I handle that? Somehow I’ll survive.

Let’s go step by step. Last Saturday at our son’s Christening I gave a short speech. There wasn’t a real big motive for the speech, but I think I did a good job. I was a bit nervous before the speech, but once I started talking, everything went smooth: I was loud; I was confident; I did everything that I planned to say. All in all, my Toastmasters experience paid off.

Tonight at Toastmasters I want to touch up on 2 questions. What would you do if you knew you had only a few months to live? It’s really a recommendation of the book Last Lecture. The book is a fascinating read. It tells you a story that had liver cancer, and how he managed to live his remaining months. Filled with great advice. Life pointers.

The other question that is more communications related: What would you do if you knew you cannot fail? Would you do things differently? Is something holding you back? Are you being yourself?

I think our life is really finding out who we really are.

  • spending on credit

My wife and credit cards. She just would spend all that she has. She has no limit. It’s concerning. That’s why she has to use cache. Cache all the time. Otherwise, it’s not going to work. But when she runs out, she asks for my card. That’s definetely not good. Because she’s asking, asking and gets it. It’s not that she can say… hmm, I can’t spend because I don’t have. The bottom line, she cannot spend.

I have to find a solution. Sometimes when she doesn’t have a card… she would use a check. Oh, cmon…

I don’t really know what the issue is… But I think I know the solution… I am going to increase the amount of money to something like $250 or $300 per week. And no more. Really. No more credit. Period. No checks. Period. If she runs out, tough luck. No more. Or $10 for a sandwich or something.

    I don’t know any other way. I know that giving her the card just makes things worse.;

  • making progress

I am finally getting somewhere in my project. I got memcached to work with Hibernate and JPA! I think this is a major accomplishment. With that, I can at least move forward with the project. I love it. I’m not out of the woods yet, but making some real good progress.

I did notice that I don’t like “setup type” work. Not sure, but I cannot concentrate doing that.

In either case, I am happy that progress has been made. Looking forward for further progress tomorrow.

  • party

We had a great party on Saturday. Really. I know I’m not objective, but it was one of the best Christening parties I’ve been to. And a lot of people were saying that when they were leaving. Even my mom said that the DJ got everyone involved. That the cake was really really good. That the Cocktail Hour was really good. My uncle said that it’s worth paying $20 more per person.

I think so too. Party at The Bethwood is worth it. Next time I am going to try to get the Seville. I think that’s the best room they have. Really nice. The one we had, Chestnut, was not bad, either. So all in all, it was as we had imagined or dreamed of.

My wife really deserves an award for this. She pretty much setup everything. Excellent job by her.

And Victor was great. My son Fabian needs to be held on a closer leash. He really is causing us more and more trouble. Not sure if that’s really him or if it’s the age, but it cannot continue. I need to find ways and mostly my wife in Poland to make him better. Otherwise, it’s just going to be difficult for us. And for him in the future.

  • today

We have a big day tomorrow: my son Victor has a Christening party! I hope everything will go well. I hope our guest will have good time. I hope that the food will be good, as well as the service. Besides that, it’s on us. My wife and I need to work to make sure the party turns out OK. I need to look sharp. My speech should help, I think. At least I hope so.

I should report back how it went on Sunday.

Today is my birthday. My wife forgot it about in the morning but called me in the afternoon. I felt a little bad, but it’s not so bad. My son talked to me as well. I love hearing him on the phone. I got a lot of birthday wishes at work and on Facebook. Nice!

  • Victor's party; Fabian not behaving

I am ready to give my Christening speech. I still have to practice a few times: 3 times is the number of times I have great opportunities — on the way home!

Will people like my speech? It’s not ground breaking. It doesn’t really get people to do anything. It’s just that I want people to get more engaged. I want to encourage people to have fun. I want to get them to feel better. I also want to bring up the importance and quality of the party. I think a good speech can do that.

Fabian. Let’s touch on him a bit. Yes, he is really a cute boy. I think he knows it by now. He’s 3.5 years old now. But he does not want to listen. He’s stubborn. He is also getting more comfortable with the class, so that’s why he might not want to be listening. But I have to be stern. I told him that I will not accept this behaviour. He will be penalized. He cannot do that. I hope that helps.
