  • soccer

My sons enjoy soccer. Yes, both of them. And Victor, considering he is only 4, is making some very nice adjustments. He is starting to handle the ball a lot better. He is still crying a lot, but I like to see him make improvements.

Fabian is also making improvements. He is getting a much better shot. There is force on it. He seems to do that in a much more consistent way. That’s good to see. I want to see that in a game situation.

As far as I’m concerned, I’m providing them a chance to practice. We have something to do outside. They like it. I like it. Everybody wins. Soccer wins! 🙂

  • being careful

I sometimes get trapped of being too eager. Too eager to get things rolled out. Too eager to get things rolling. And sometimes I get bitten. What that shows is that I have no appetite for slowdown, for bureaucracy. And I guess that’s good. But quality requires that I do follow up and that I am cautious, careful. I will have that in mind.

OK, learning docker is really fun. Let’s learn some more!

  • learning and moving forward

    Learning, learning, and learning.

I need to step it up!

But I have to honest about one thing: changes that I have been making are helping. They’re helping me to regain some urgency. They’re helping me to waste less time.

    But I need more.

I have decided to take a deep dive into Docker. We are ready for some action there. But it requires some serious investment. Like, anything new!

I also have to revive my journal, this, writing. I need to regain a sense of purpose. What am I writing about? What is this all about?

  • soccer game

I had a talk with Fabian before Saturday’s game. I told him I want to see him sweat. I want him to stay alert and give all he has. For the most part, he responded. That was a much better game from him than what I’ve seen so far. He hustled. He stayed in control.

That’s really all I ask from him: to give his best, to leave his heart on the field. I will try to talk to him before each game. Hopefully that will help.

As a reward, I took my boys to a red bulls soccer game. I think both liked it. I think they will remember the experience for some time. It’s a really nice stadium, so it was a nice experience for me as well.

  • getting better

We’ve had a good run as a team so far. Every sprint, we get a lot done. We’re A1 and we are expected to deliver not only quantity but also quality. We’ve been able to accomplish a whole lot.

I do need to take better notes of the feedback I need to present. At a retro, I’m forgetting things.

It’s important that we adjust as we move along. Minor adjustments are always needed. I’m never the one to be happy and satisfied.

I need to keep up the pressure. I need to make sure that we improve as we go along.

  • morning routine

Not sure why, but I am really tired in the morning.  My goal is to collect a pomo in the am, but that’s not always possible. I’ve tried several techniques. One time sucker for me in the am, after I wake up, is the phone. I do take time for that. Perhaps I can limit it to a single app? I think it could be possible to only check email, let’s say, and not feedly. Let me try that. For now, I will only check email in the time I have before show. 5:25 or earlier is my target.

How am I doing with my wife? How have I changed recently?

I have, to be honest. I have a different mindset. I look at girls differently. I have more respect for my wife. Those are all good changes. I will continue with them.

  • getting results

Fabian needs discipline. He is taking advantage of my wife’s “being good” to him. That has to stop. He’s taking advantage of that. She’s giving in. And that is proving costly to her. Now she needs help.

It’s easy to provide help, except that it will not mean anything.

She has to figure out what works for him and her. She has to apply the right amount of pressure to get him. Not sure if it’s rewards or punishment. I feel it’s got to be discipline, asking for something and making sure it gets done, no matter what.

  • longer weekend

I had an extra day off. For Columbus day. It’s really nice. I needed it. In fact, I should probably take a day off soon. I need to relax a bit. That extra day takes my mind away. It forces me to relax. I really like that.

My son had a 2-day tournament over the weekend. The boys played well… for half of the tournament. The rest, well, they need to improve. A lot. And Fabian, he also needs to step it up a bit. I saw him standing around a lot. I saw him calling other team. I say him not fully engaged. And that’s not acceptable. That is not acceptable. We are going to work on it. We will work on it.

  • learning is the foundation

I had to stand firm on our team’s principle of learning, quality, and gtd. W manages to put me into stressful situations. I had to make a quick decision. Allow him to skip our team meeting or stand firm and allow him to make a statement that it’s more important than the delivery. I said it’s more important that we run as a team, even at a price of a missed delivery.

Learning is the foundation of how we run the team. We grow as a team. We learn from each other. We support each other. We challenge each other. I cannot allow to have that changed. Nor challenged.

  • asking questions

Asking others for things that I’m not sure about helps. It helps a lot. It helps to clarify what the problem is. It also helps to get somebody else’s view. Then you can step back a little and see it from another angle.

That’s what happened yesterday. I was asking Yuva about the hive enum problem. He mentioned the solution. I was not totally happy with it. But then we also asked Jason. He pointed us towards a different direction. I think with his suggestion, we should be able to fix the issue. Nice!

What I want to say, when in doubt, ask. When stuck, ask. Asking, rephrasing the problem helps a great deal.
